Death Becomes Her

I have, for the past 24 hours, been considering mortality, decay and other cheerful matters. It all started last night when I decided to download an episode of Nip/Tuck from iTunes; I was an avid fan, watching Seasons 1 & 2 on Channel 4 and then catching up with Seasons 3 & 4 (after Sky purloined it) on box sets; but I'd rather fallen behind with my viewing since then and for some random reason decided I felt like dipping my toe back in the surgically enhanced waters and, reader I loved it and promptly ordered Seasons 5 & 6 from Amazon today <FYI, at the moment, a much better deal than downloading from iTunes> It's dark and sharp and funny and a brilliant satire about the demands of modern beauty.

And then today (sandwiched in between a conversation about phobias; clowns and moths for my Holistic friend and overripe bananas for me, because they remind me of my own mortality and withering decay, thanks for asking) I spotted this:

Here's the link for the story if you want to read it:

And it made me remember the completely brilliant, but apparently, rather controversial promotional campaign for the 'Six Feet Under'; which featured amongst others, these two advertisements:

I thought it was wonderfully dark and clever; but obviously not everybody agreed. Here's the whole story:

It does make you wonder though, as we seemingly almost embalm the living in a quest for perfection, where it's going to stop.

Sweet Dreams,

  1. Love this. I hadn't seen the Six Feet Under ads before, though was addicted to the programme. You do live a wonderfully surreal existence......
